Halothane is a lightweight memory guard for macOS. It continuously samples each process's true physical memory footprint and alerts you when a process exceeds a configurable threshold or grows unusually fast. When you opt in, Halothane can pause the offending process tree using the standard SIGSTOP signal, allowing you to resume it later. It also offers an automatic mode that may pause the largest non‑exempt process during critical system memory pressure. The app lives in the menu bar, works on macOS 14 Sonoma or later on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and monitors all user accounts via a privileged helper.
