A Checker That Explains Itself
Loupe is a free Chrome and Edge extension that scans any website for WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 accessibility issues using the open-source axe-core engine. It runs locally in the browser, highlights problems directly on the page, and explains each one in plain English, with an optional AI-drafted code fix. The free plan allows unlimited scans with no signup, and nothing leaves your machine; paid tiers add PDF export, multi-page crawls, and white-label agency reports.
Maker Róbert Nikulásson built it because, as he puts it, small businesses are getting hit with accessibility lawsuits, and most free checkers either bury you in jargon or want your URL first. He wanted something that runs in your own browser and explains each problem in plain words.
How the Week Went
Loupe finished on top of a field of 234 products, pulling in 1,023 claps in a round that saw 5,360 claps cast in total across 20 distinct clappers. It edged out CareJobs. Now, which closed with 969 claps, and FileShift, which closed with 806.
Róbert says the hard part was never the build. Building it, he says, took a few weeks. Getting the first users has taken months, and he's still learning that part. The win here reads like the product of that slow, person-by-person effort rather than any shortcut.
What's Next
Róbert's plans are modest and concrete: more help pages built around what people actually search for, like how to check a site for ADA problems, plus a Product Hunt relaunch in January. Loupe picked up one review during the round with a perfect average rating, a small but clean signal alongside the claps.
“Lots of small fixes, and a lot of asking strangers to try it. Thanks to everyone who clapped for Loupe!”
The rest of the podium
Credit also to CareJobs. Now (969 claps) and FileShift (806 claps), both of which pushed Loupe the whole way to the finish. No spend, no growth hacks, just 20 people clapping for the things they liked this week.
