Hi, I'm Nathan, and Anvil is the thing I've been building on my own iPhone for the last while. It's a private AI assistant where the models run on the phone itself. You download Anvil Core over WiFi once, and after that you can chat, talk to it with your voice, and work with your notes, tasks, photos and documents with no signal at all. There's no account and nothing to log into. If you want pictures too, Anvil Dream downloads inside the app and makes 1024x1024 images right on the phone. Web search and iCloud backup are there if you turn them on, and they're kept separate from on device chat. Things I actually use it for: reading a Japanese train sign from a photo in Airplane Mode, turning a receipt photo into a note with the total, and drafting messages on flights. For the curious: chat runs on Gemma 4 E2B through LiteRT LM, and Anvil Dream is an SDXL Lightning variant in Core ML on the Neural Engine. The two models never load at the same time, which is how it all fits. It's a free public beta on TestFlight, and everyone who joins gets Anvil Pro free. You'll need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
